Colonial Michilimackinac

Location:
Colonial Michilimackinac is located in Mackinaw City, Michigan (45° 47' 9"N , 84° 44' 8"W).  Colonial Michilimackinac is open to the public from early May through mid-October each year. The entrance and Visitor's Center are located under Interstate 75 - Mackinac Bridge.

What’s There:
Colonial Michilimackinac is a fortified village enclosed by a tall wooden wall called a palisade.  Both soldiers and villagers lived inside.  The buildings have been reconstructed using historical and archaeological information.   Colonial Michilimackinac has the nation's longest continuous archaeological dig.  Inside the buildings today there are exhibits about the fort and how people lived at the fort.  Historic interpreters dressed in uniforms and clothing from the 1770s demonstrate life on the frontier with musket and cannon firings, cooking demonstrations and walking tours.  Wedding and Arrival of the Voyageur reenactments are added to the programs during the summer.
